Day 71393

Just kidding.

I mean "Days 70-74"

Although that would be a lie also because today's blog post is going to be mostly about this past weekend so it should really just be "Days 70-71" but nothing interesting happened this week anyways...

So this past weekend I went to PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC.
Honestly I think people hyped it up a bit. So when I got there it was a bit underwhelming and I couldn't really understand what was actually so "amazing" "beautiful" "cool" "awesome" about it. But on Sunday, despite the freezing cold and rainy weather, we went on a walking tour and actually learning the history and the significance of the city made me see the beauty (both in the physical sense and abstract) of Prague.

One interesting fact is that the (only) airport in Prague had signs everywhere in three languages: their Czech language, Russian and KOREAN - so random but made me smile.

But as usual, I'll let the pictures do most of the explaining. Hope you enjoy!

Paid about $7.50 to walk up some hundred steps to take this picture. worth it? debatable...

Inside of a beautiful church (oops, forgot what it's called)
but also, the architecture class I'm taking with my program has worth.
those are rib-vaulted ceilings and the exterior of the church is gothic style (go me)
the beautiful pinkish tone on the left side came from the lights that were passing through the stained glasses. so beautiful

Such detailed and gorgeous stained glass!

Charles Bridge

This was everywhere so I'm assuming it's a traditional Czech dessert.
So good although the inside was hollow lol

The number 1 tourist attraction - The Astronomical Clock located in Old Town in Prague
Google for more info (it's actually really cool)

Wenceslas Square where thousands of people once gathered to protest against communism

Bubblez!!!

De-frosted in a cafe for 4 hours on Sunday
because we were frozen after a 2 hour walking tour in the rain..

Live happ(illy)

The John Lennon Wall

Failed jumping picture

St. Vitus Cathedral - It was so overwhelming
WoOoOow

The famous red roofed buildings that signify Prague

This map in the lobby of our hostel had pins to indicate where their guests had come from

Ice Bar

Yes - ice cups

That building in the middle with the red rooftop is a palace.
The balcony on it was from where both communism and (later) democracy were declared.

& to the right of the palace:
The two towers of Church of Our Lady before Týn are purposely unsymmetrical to signify that only God could create perfect things.

Prague went through a lot for being such a small city. But that's why I found this city so admirable and beautiful. It's really small... but it has so much history and significance to it. I didn't take any pictures of it, but during our tour, we went to an area that used to be closed off with a bordering wall around the entire area to maintain Jews inside it. A part of the wall still stands today, near which is the Jewish Museum and a graveyard of thousands of Jews that died during the war.

Basically, there's not much to do there. But all the buildings are exquisite and so ornate that walking through the streets is like walking through the halls of a museum. There are so many churches but religious people are evidently a minority. The percentage of people who believe in any religion is so low and it is obvious especially by the fact churches serve no function or purpose for any means of religious activity. So these beautiful, spacious and empty buildings are used as concert halls and museums.

Overall, it was really cool to stand where history was made.

Thanks for being patient, I hope you all enjoyed it! I'd be more than happy to tell you more personally if you're interested. Or stick around on FB cause I'll be uploading more pics later on!

Aside from Prague, this week has been quite tiring but it's my third to last week of internships. It's a bittersweet feeling but currently more on the sweet side. As the 26th day of March, it marks exactly one month before I go back home to Jersey. I've been experiencing a gamut of emotions while also trying to soak up whatever else I can from this place. Been realizing a lot about myself and I think I'm growing more (?) lol. The feels have been real this week and I've been missing a lot of people.

Anyways, I'm gonna head to bed soon (it's 9:15 here but I'm exhausted).

Good night,

xx
