Hello friends!
Forgive me for slacking in my daily blogging. I've been away and just tired/lazy... so I'm sorry but hello! This past weekend I was away in Amsterdam and it was pretty exhausting from all the travels and having to carry my heavy backpack and Longchamp for the entire two days.
Amsterdam wasn't as shocking as Italy was because it had the canals and the bridges just like Venice. But a few years ago I was watching America's Next Top Model and on one of the episodes, the models had a mission to complete in Amsterdam. Ever since then, I told myself that I had to go there before I died. So even though the city was rather underwhelming, I couldn't believe that I was actually at a place I had on the top of my list of places to travel.
Thank GOD the weather was beautiful and I got to eat some really yummy food. Two major foods of Amsterdam include french fries and falafel. They have french fries stands everywhere! And most of their restaurants are middle-eastern (?) food. I had the best falafel sandwiches and french fries there *drool
BAKED POTATO ft. mad veggies and sauce on it
(Yes, I ate two dinners in one night).
My friends and I didn't do much, because honestly, it's a small city and there isn't much to do (unless you're into smoking weed. but actually. it's legal there). What we did do mostly were walking (we walked so much....) and eating (much yummy. so taste). But overall, I was satisfied with the trip because of the weather, the fact that I could cross it off my list, and the delicious food I got to try. There were really interesting markets with Stroopwafels (thin waffles with caramel in the middle), bootleg everything (ofcourse), and flowers along with other things. They even have flower markets that were filled with beautiful flowers of all different colors, sizes, and shapes.
POTATO
STROOPWAFELS
Casual boat parties
Heart attack
Cheap but amazing gelato
(Mango passionfruit & Strawberry Cheesecake)
Also, everyone bikes in Amsterdam, so there's a separate bike lane. The thing is.. you never know whether you're on a bike lane or on a sidewalk or on a street because everything looks the same. You only find out the moment you hear something screaming at you or honking their bikes. And parents ride their bikes with babies in front of them... like, what if the baby falls off?!?
(Look at that girl just casually chillin on her front porch)
P.S. did you know the house that Anne Frank hid in is in Amsterdam?! I didn't know that until my friends decided to go on the inside tour of the house she stayed in and also the bookcase behind which she hid (I didn't go in though lol).
Amsterdam reminded me a lot of Brooklyn and all things hipster. It was chill, it had good food, the water was right there, and everyone was fashionable in one way or another. It was interesting how two cities from miles away could liken one another.
Anyways, thanks A'dam for a short but sweet weekend getaway.
(Can ya spot me hehe)
* * *
We got back Sunday around midnight and I was so exhausted. But Monday was good because I got to see a friend from back home. It was sooo nice to see and chat with a friend whom I haven't seen in months, especially because I've been starting to get more homesick.
Work has been good. But it's also stressful sometimes because I realized that I'm sort of a perfectionist and when I miss out certain details when I work on my assignments... it's pretty discouraging. But I'm glad to have learned so much already, and ofcourse everyone in the office is super sweet. Also, one funny thing I realized about the Brits is that their "How are you?" is "You okay/alright?" It took me a while to figure this out. The first few times I responded with a confused look and a "yes? yes! I'm fine" But soon I realized that this was their greeting. It wasn't because I seemed distressed or not okay hahahaha.
Anyways, talk to me personally if you want to know more about my trip and whatnot. Otherwise, I think the pictures have always done a better job of telling y'all my experiences. Thanks for being patient and continuing on this trip with me! Hope you guys will stick around until the end.
Good night, loves
xx
